Arsenal could be without a number of key players when they take on Liverpool this weekend as they attempt to cope with a serious injury crisis.
The Gunners are on a 13-match unbeaten run in all competitions but will be sorely tested with a large portion of their squad sidelined for Saturday’s match at the Emirates.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Unai Emery revealed that Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac, Hector Bellerin and Sokratis Papastathopoulos are all facing late fitness tests.
“We are playing a lot and injuries are normal,” the Arsenal boss said.
“We will wait on full-back. We will see if a player can make it for tomorrow.”
Stephan Lichtsteiner is expected to cover for Bellerin at right-back after the Spaniard picked up a thigh problem during the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
However, the opposite flank is more problematic with both Monreal and Kolasinac doubtful.
Granit Xhaka filled in against Palace while Carl Jenkinson played there against Blackpool in midweek, although versatile youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also an option.
With Sokratis a doubt and Laurent Koscielny still recovering from a long-term injury, Rob Holding is the leading candidate to partner Shkodran Mustafi at centre-back.
Further forward, Lucas Torreira is expected to start in midfield alongside either Xhaka or Aaron Ramsey with Matteo Guendouzi suspended and Mohamed Elneny sidelined.
Alex Iwobi should be recalled on the right wing while Mesut Ozil is set to start in the No 10 role as Emile Smith Rowe drops out.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will line up out wide with Alexandre Lacazette up front, unless Emery decides to be more conservative against Liverpool’s free-flowing attack.
